Secure Building Solutions completed the construction of new sports field facilities comprising of two new artificial turf soccer fields, one new bitumen basketball court and feature retaining wall with timber seating for St Josephs Catholic Primary School in Moorebank. In addition to the sports field works, the project included detailed civil works for the installation of a new OSD tank and stormwater drainage system.
Due to the existing condition of the site containing hazardous material, special attention was given to the extensive site remediation required to ensure that the site was safe for the staff and students at the school. Despite encountering these unforeseen conditions, the project team, in collaboration with the hygienist and architect effectively managed this challenge by proposing innovative and cost-effective solutions without posing a risk to the surrounding area.
Another project constraint was working within a live site, where site egress was shared with the school. The site team where able to maintain clear and open communication with the school to ensure that deliveries and the movement of heavy vehicles were coordinated with high traffic times at the school. The project team on this project had ensured that the clients’ needs and concerns took precedence while these works were carried out.
A unique design element of this project included the installation of premium vertigo split face blockwork which wrapped around the boundary of the sports field. The wall was design with fixed timber bench seating which provided both a functional and contemporary element to the project. Detailed masonry work was required to ensure that the vertical slits on the face of the bricks were aligned to achieve a seamless and uniform finish throughout.
This project is another example of how the project team demonstrated quick problem-solving skills and an unhindered commitment to safe working procedures to ensure that the wellbeing of the school was put first. Quality workmanship along with a collaborative approach to project management allowed the project team to deliver a product which met the design intent with minimal disruption to the school.
