Secure Building Solutions in collaboration with Stanton Dahl Architects, successfully completed the construction of a new Outdoor Learning Facility for Wollondilly Anglican College, Tahmoor.
The standalone building was designed to provide a flexible learning space which could be used as an outdoor BBQ area for out of hours functions or as a covered outdoor learning area for the staff and students to utilize during normal school hours.
The site was situated adjacent to the school’s library resulting in additional coordination with the schools’ stakeholders to ensure that disruption was kept to a minimum during classes and exams.
Major Leadtime items such as structural steel & selected brickwork were procured immediately to ensure that any exposure to delay was minimized. While works that would cause the most disruption such as heavy demolition and major mechanical upgrades to the Library Air Conditioning were carried out during the Christmas holiday break.
During the course of the project SBS worked closely with the school staff and the project architect to develop and achieve a seamless transition between the existing landscaping and the new landscaping. The design intent of the retaining walls, embankments and grassed areas was to achieve easy ongoing maintenance for the schools GA staff. This goal was attained through SBS’s collaborative approach to project management during construction phase of the project.
The completion of the [project was met with enthusiastic feedback from the client and the school. Wollondilly Anglican College has expressed a great appreciation for their new facilities and are eager to showcase the area to parents and the broader school community. This positive reception highlights the value added by this project to the schools existing facilities.
